Sweet Marjoram has an oregano like scent and flavour. Sweet marjoram is a shrubby tender perennial that grows to about 1' tallwith wirey, red-brown stems and downy gray-green aromatic leaves.

It produces tiny white flowers on clustered spikes in summer. It wasbelieved that Aphrodite, the goddess of love, created sweet marjoram as a symbol of happiness. Frost tender plant, can be overwintered inside.

Sow the sweet marjoram seeds from March onwards inside in small pots or trays. Marjoram seeds are very fine, the best is to cover these herb seeds with sieved compost and place the tray in a polythene bag at about 18 Celsius.

Germination can take up to 20 days. Water the pots from the bottom, saucer required, this way the fine sweet marjoram seeds will not be disturbed during the germination.

When seedlings are large enough to handle pinch some out if too crowded.\nAfter all risk of frost has passed, plant in groups into final position. The strong growing plants will produce plenty of tasty leaves. Cut them as required.
