{"id":556,"date":"2012-06-25T20:22:54","date_gmt":"2012-06-25T19:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/?p=556"},"modified":"2023-08-22T19:47:44","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T18:47:44","slug":"allotment-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/on-the-plot\/allotment-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Allotment Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the rain yesterday morning the evening weather was a bit brighter so managed to get to the allotment.<\/p>\n<p>There was a horrible corner, unfortunately I seem to have quite a few of those, and I have tried to grow potatoes there last year. It was going alright until the autumn as I can recall but after that I didn&#8217;t go near that place until yesterday; I thought I can pull the big weeds out easily after the rain. So there I had it half a row of potatoes growing nicely, obviously I forgot to dig them up last year, but I checked and small new potatoes are already appearing and last years spuds providing the new growth as they are breaking down nicely. So I decided to leave the plants in and dig them up in a month; best to eat my potatoes as soon as I can,\u00a0 there is simply too much foraging to do in the autumn to do all the gardening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-557\" title=\"potatoes\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/potatoes.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After pulling lots of weeds out I removed the sideshoots of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/tomato-growing\/grow-tomatoes-greenhouse\/\">tomatoes in the greenhouse<\/a>, it is a job which needs to be done every other day in there, the plants are growing really fast. I love growing them inside, so much satisfaction and they are twice as big as the outdoor tomato plants. They are flowering nicely inside and I have seen few small insects and two bumblebees too around the flowers, definitely much less than on an average June day but looks like the flowers do set just fine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/tomato-flower1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-558\" title=\"tomato flower\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seedparade.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/tomato-flower1-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the lovely chillies are growing nicely, the one below is cayenne red.
