Carrot Flyaway F1 250 seeds
Carrot Flyaway F1 is a British bred carrot, specially bred to tolerate carrot root fly. Excellent quality cylindrical roots. Smooth, bright orange skin, blunt end. Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. If you want the best success against carrot flies, try to plant garlic or strong scented herbs around your carrots, so that the flies will not detect the scent of the carrots foliage.
Dig deep where you want your carrot and add plenty of organic material to the soil in the autumn and as much sand as you can afford; this will help the roots to grow long and straight.
Sow the seeds thinly from March to June 1 cm deep, leaving 30-35cm between the rows.
Thin out when seedlings are 10-15cm long leaving 2-3cm between plants, depending on how big you want your carrots.
Keep watering in hot summer; water in the evening to avoid attracting carrot fly.Delicious raw when smaller in size, a great addition to any salad. Try to grow carrots with onions, garlic or mint, these will disguse the scent of the carrot and the carrot root fly won't be able to find your crop.
