Cleome is a tall growing hardy annual. Violet Queen is sumptuous purple, great as a border plant. Eye catching, spiralling scented sprays of blooms. A centerpiece in any flower garden.
Sow the cleome seeds in trays, pots of good seed compost in a propagator or warmplace to maintain an optimum temperature of 25-27 Celsius. Sow these hardy annual flower seeds in a welldrained quality compost, just cover the seeds slightly with very fine grain of compost, and do notexclude light, which will aid germination. Sow from middle of January to end of March. The seeds need fluctuating temperatures to geminate well and germination can take up to three weeks. Make sure thatthe temperature drops at night for greater germination.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle. Hardenoff and plant out when all risk of frost has passed in your area, about 30 cm apart. Cleome prefers a rich well drained soil and plenty of sunshine.
