Lathyrus latifolius, the everlasting pea! Perennial!
White, pink and purple flowers.

Perennial sweet pea was very popular in Victorian gardens. Quick growing plants. The flowers are orchid-like.

Sow January-March under glass in gentle heat or in April-May outdoors for flowers June-September. Can also be sown in September-October in a coldframe or greenhouse to overwinter in frames to produce earliest blooms. Sow in compost, or finely raked soil. Soaking the seeds overnight can speed up germination, however it is not necessary.

Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle, harden off before planting outside. Pinch out the growing point in order to have stronger side shoots to support the plants.

Great climber, makes nice cut flowers. Prefers full sun. Pick regularly to encourage to produce more flowers. Cut the plant back in the autumn when finished flowering, and it will reappear in the spring!
