Lemon grass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) is a perennial herb. It is an East Indian strain growing to 20- 30cm in height. Quick growing clumps. Can be used instead of the classic Thai lemongrass. Used for various purposes: lemongrass oil used to flavor teas, ice cream, candy, pastries, desserts. Also used in cosmetics, soaps and perfumes. Lemongrass oil revitalizes the body and relieves the symptoms of jetlag, clears headaches and helps to ease exhaustion and stress-related conditions.

Sow from late winter to early summer 0.5 cm, deep in good, free draining seed compost. Make sure it is moist but not wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination . Alternatively you can sow directly outside from May. Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5 cm pots. Later plant out 30cm  apart into ordinary well-drained soil, in full sun.
