Lady Di produces stringless, fleshy pods due to the fact that the seeds form very slowly in the pods. Attractive red flowers. Pods are 30-35 cm lond. Beans are a good source of Vitamin C and iron. Check out our selection of organic seeds here.

For earliest crop sow the runner bean seeds inside in individual pods about 3 weeks before the last expected frost.

Sow the Lady Di runner bean seeds individually in small pots 3-4 cm deep. Keep the temperature between 17-22 Celsius. Transplant outside in June when the plants are strong and all risk of frost has passed.

Outside sowing can be done in late spring when the soil is warm enough for the runner bean seeds.Typically June sowings are recommended but you can sow them as early as May direct outside and as late as early July for a later harvest. Runner bean seed germination can be eradicated in cold soils, so make sure the soil temperature is at least 15 Celsius. Sow 3-4 cm deep in well prepared soil. Dig a deeper trench and mulch it with wood clipping, semi rotted compost and newspapers, this will kepp the soil around the seeds warm as the mulch decomposting under ground, just underneath the seeds. Allow 15-20 cm between the bean seeds, this is a large seeded runner bean variety. Prefers full sun and rich soil.
