Sweet Pea Cupani 30 seeds
Heirloom sweet pea with classic simple blossoms, which are deep purple and violet bicoloured. The original strain from which was found in Sicily.
The bushy plants produce masses of flowers, which are amazingly scented; this makes the variety a must-have in any modern garden.
This original wild sweet pea was sent to England in 1699 by Franciscus Cupani, a Sicilian monk. Sow in seed compost, January-March under glass or in April-May outdoors for flowers June-September. For earlier blooms, sow September-October and overwinter in a cold frame or greenhouse. To speed up germination you can soak the seeds overnight.
Transplant the seedlings when large enough to handle, harden off before planting out. Pinch out the growing point in order to have stronger side shoots. Pick regularly to encourage more flowers. Prefers full sun. Requires support.
